As a brand newbie I am trying to do the detox plan right out of the gate to help get me started but I have a question about the apple cider vinegar. I’ve tried using this before for various things, such as curing colds, etc. and am met with an instant gag reflex unfortunately. Walgreens now sells it in capsule form, could I substitute this for the liquid or would you recommend the cinnamon capsules instead?

Reply

Mari Ann at 5:42 pm

Hi Becky – no ACV capsules are not the same. Just go with the cinnamon. Try to use ACV in salad dressings and marinades as much as possible.

I started the gluten free diet about 3 weeks ago. I am finding it harder than I initially thought it would be, but I am also finding that I am fatigued, and it seems like more than ever before. I am a high protein Meta-class, and eating in the morning is NOT easy for me! Any ideas on what I can do to help with that?!

Reply

Mari Ann at 11:27 pm

Is eating in the morning a prob because you’re not hungry? Or, you just don’t know what to eat?
If you just don’t know what to eat, try some of the MM Breakfast recipes. http://www.marimethod.com/recipes/mari-method-mufflettes/
would be a good one to start with… simple to make and you can make different variations by adding different veggies and cheeses. AND… they can be made ahead of time, and simply warmed up in the morning.

If you’re not hungry, I’d suggest starting out with MARI Method recommended: http://www.marimethod.com/whey-protein . This is an extremely high quality, whey protein, and is great for folks who are just “not hungry” first thing in the morning.

Hi Mari Ann…I ordered the Almond Meal Flour from Barry Farm Foods at Amazon…the 1 lb. bag. Now I’m looking at the new cookbook and it says that Almond Flour is not to be confused with almond meal. So I’m wondering what I ordered. Is almond meal flour not almond flour? If not, the book says it won’t work for these recipes. Help me , please! :)

Reply

Mari Ann at 3:47 pm

For Barry Farm Foods, their ‘almond meal flour” is simply blanched, ground almonds. This is what I use, and what is recommended by the almond cook-book I have.

There are some products that are labeled “almond flour” that are actually almond meal mixed with rice flour. That is the kind of “almond flour” the book warns you against using.

I’m ready to take the challenge (August 15-Nov 15). I’ve fallen off the wagon – so to speak. I haven’t exercised regularly and I’ve not eaten well. I’ve out grown my size 8s and my size 10s are quite snug. I want to lose 15 pounds and get back into my size 8 clothes. They are new and really nice looking, and I can’t wear them becuase I’ve gained circumference again – the weight is hovering around 140 pounds. My doctor requested I stay under 130; I’d like to be at 124 – I’m a petite 5 foot 3 inches and shouldn’t be carrying alot of weight.
It’s time…

I would like some advice on taking ACV. Any suggestions? Gayla – I thought I was the only one who did not understand the yellow table limits. HA! I would also like to know if that is two from each list a day, or just two from the whole list a day. I could not find the reply to your question.
Thank you.. Pam

Reply

Mari Ann at 11:37 am

Hi Pam! About the ACV.. some people like it warm, others like it cold. Some like it mixed with water, others prefer mixing it with tea and adding a little stevia to it.

The instructions for the yellow food charts can be found here: http://www.marimethod.com/eat-smart/the-eatsmart/ under Step 1.

But, in a nutshell…It is NOT REQUIRED that you eat from all of the yellow tables. In fact, unless you are a vegetarian, you will most likely NOT eat from all of the yellow tables on a daily basis. HOWEVER, when eating from the yellow tables… do NOT eat MORE than is shown on the table.

AND…. when you do your Metabolism Classification Quiz, you’ll see further instructions about the yellow tables based on your specific metabolism type: http://www.marimethod.com/metaclassquiz/

HI Mari , the last time taked my interest was diercted toward gluten and t concerns with all sticky slimy grains. Or was that worm fishing we were taking about. I am definitely interested in the avoid newton’s/ooops gluten at all cost. i hope you have enough variety in your recipes to replace 75% of our existing diet.
when does the fun start?(jk)

ran across the website in an article >>> http://www.rawcrunchbar.com anyone tried these? is it a decent snack for us, mari ann?

Reply

Mari Ann at 12:50 pm

@Melanie – I just explored the site and am pretty impressed! I’m going to have to order some of these myself.

All organic, gluten free, soy-free and not loaded with sugar! 5 gms of natural sugar per bar, which is a reasonable amount, especially if you are not a protein type person, and don’t have blood sugar issues. If you are a protein type,, I’d suggest only eating 1/2 a bar at a time. Great find!!

I found that refrigerated ACV diluted with a little ice cold water worked best for me.

Reply

Rose Puls at 11:17 am

Not sure if the “addatives” are allowed, but I put 1 tsp ACV, stevia & true orange, true lemon, or true lime packet in 20 oz bottle of cold spring water and it tastes pretty good. I drink it all day. It’s a little more dilluted that way and kind of refreshing. I figured it was better than not at all if you can’t handle the taste…

Ya’ll let me know if this is bad and I’ll stop, or if it’s good, join me – lol :o )

Reply

Mari Ann at 11:48 am

This is a GREAT idea, Rose!
Seems like I remember the “true” products contain malto-dextrin. This is an additive that normally comes from corn… and since most corn is now GMO, it’s one additive I recommend you avoid.
Once you run out, you may want to try a pure oil extract – either these: http://www.youngliving.org/marimethod, or you can get one at a health-food store. Just make sure there are no additives in it and that they are therapeutic grade extracts.

Reply

Mari Ann at 11:50 am

As you get more used to the ACV, increase the amount you’re drinking – and, to get the insulin response effects, you need to include it at meals.

I feel so blessed to have started this specific program because I know its what I have needed to do for myself for a long time and was making every excuse not to! Now I see that it is totally doable and feel great all week long. The expectation for myself was that I would be giving up soo much but really that never was a thought at all for me because I do have plenty of good choices to eat from and feel more than satisfied!!! Thank you so much! xoxoxo, mil

YIPPEE is right, Amber! I’m doing a little dance right now. Encourage Matt to sick with the ACV at least a couple of months. It will get better. And, if not, he can use cinnamon capsules and get some of the same benefits.

Reply

Amber Leleaux at 3:13 pm

I’m down 6 pounds this week. Matt is down NINE! Yippeee! I’m excited about how easy it is once you plan in advance. Matt is mostly looking forward to when ACV doesn’t taste like “feet”. :)

@Wilma – excellent news! Don’t worry about not being able to do it all at first. That will come over time as your body gets stronger and your overall physical condition improves. I’m excited for you!

Hi Dawn,
I found that I tolerate the ACV easily if I dilute it in warm water and slam it like a shot. I also often mix it with olive oil and use it as a salad dressing. Good luck and keep us posted.

dawn smith at 6:29 pm

i really cant get that apple cider vinager down. i added it to water and told my self you love cole slaw think of it as cole slaw juice… nope that didnt work. do i really have to take 2 table spoons 3 times a day??????

Reply

admin at 6:35 pm

Hi Dawn – glad you are giving it a try. But, as I mention on the ACV section:

“I suggest you TRY Apple Cider Vinegar for at least 2 weeks. However, we are ALL individuals. If you find that ACV just does not agree with you, you can stop using it. The MARI Method will still work for you.”

When taken with food, ACV lowers your body’s insulin response, and helps you more properly digest the food. As an alternative to help with the insulin response, you can take cinnamon capsules. These are now available at most drugstores. The cinnamon capsules will help with the insulin response, but they do not have all the other added benefits of the ACV.

When taking the ACV, try holding your nose. This may help.

I’m really so happy to hear about the pinto beans. We are part pinto.

Reply

admin at 1:24 pm

Fresh cranberries (or dried cranberries without added sugar) would be a great choice.
For fresh cranberries, 1/2 cup would have 2 gms of sugar.) I’m having problems finding the breakdown from dried cranberries. I’ll add these both to the food charts

Reply

Shelie Bandy at 1:06 pm

Which list do fresh cranberries go on?

Reply

Gayla Williams at 6:42 pm

Thanks! I thought they were so bad, I should not have had them at all. YIKES was my thought after I ate them and then looked for them on the chart.

Another food I am not finding on the list is cranberries. I like to eat dried cranberries and cherries. It is hard to find them without sugar added, but when I do, I buy them and eat them. I also like cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. So, tell me your thoughts on cranberries as well as dried fruit without sugar added.

Reply

admin at 5:47 pm

That is definitely an oversight! Good catch, Gayla. I’ll have these added to the legumes chart right away.

Reply

Gayla Williams at 3:35 pm

So, what’s the deal with pinto beans? I don’t see them on any of the charts, or am I just overlooking them? I had 1/4 cup for lunch…..

For the foods, please review http://www.marimethod.com/eat-smart/the-eatsmart and scroll down to the part about STEP 1 – Food Guidelines

For the yometrics, yes, you can burn it to a DVD and play it on your DVD player.

Gayla Williams at 7:34 pm

So I have toyed around with this program for a while, and I have finally decided to get serious! So, I have a few questions. On the yellow food list, where it has several tables, i.e., alcoholic beverages, fruits, veggies, etc. It says 2 a day, does that mean that I can have 2 from each of the lists; i.e., 2 fruits and 2 alcoholic beverages?

Also can I put the yometrics on a disk and play it in my DVD player?
